The Baker Company and EverCell Bio announce the creation of a Cell Culture Research in Natick, MA, featuring SCI-tive, an advanced low oxygen cell culture workstation designed to mimic physiological conditions.

The Baker Company, a worldwide leader in the manufacture and supply of cell culture, biosafety, and contamination control technologies, has partnered with Evercell Bio, the specialized biotechnology company that facilitates and enhances the application of pluripotent stem cell-based research by providing the most comprehensive and highest quality of customized cell modeling and product services.

The partnership brings continuous, physiologically relevant culture to stem cell workflows using the state-of-the-art SCI-tive Closed Cell Culture workstation.

Baker’s SCI-tive is a physiological workstation designed to mimic ‘in-vivo’ conditions by providing a continuous cell culture environment with an accurate, homogeneous biological atmosphere including oxygen, CO₂, temperature, and humidity levels. 

The partnership combines Baker’s expertise with Physoxia/hypoxia workstations together with EverCell Bio’s highly customizable stem cell services to create more physiologically and clinically relevant systems. For the first time in the Boston area, this will allow biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies as well as academic groups to evaluate the impact of tight oxygen control on their cells and systems of interest.

The Baker Company has partnered with QuVa Pharma in order to support their expansion and new purpose-built facility in Bloomsbury, NJ with all new laboratory space and clean rooms.

Baker’s relationship with QuVa Pharma started originally with a project in its Sugar Land, TX facility. Then, in 2017, that relationship grew as QuVa was expanding with a new, purpose-built facility in Bloomsbury, NJ with all new laboratory space and clean rooms.  Baker provided all the primary engineering controls to provide ISO 5 air cleanliness for compounded sterile products in clean rooms and biosafety cabinets for quality labs in the New Jersey facility.

Baker was a part of the original project implementation in Texas and continued to be a reliable partner throughout the Texas and New Jersey expansions.

QuVa now has over 300,000 sq ft of sterile manufacturing space between its Texas and New Jersey facilities. “ Baker was pleased to partner with QuVa to support them in providing the highest quality sterile products for patient care and delivering on their cGMP standards”, stated Cybelle Guerrero, Baker’s Director of Sales.

Perform heads up microscopy within the oxygen controlled environment of Baker Ruskinn workstations with Etaluma’s digital microscopy solutions.

Etaluma’s Lumascope line of inverted microscopes constitute a dramatic new concept in digital fluorescence microscopy that combines high resolution and sensitivity.  Powered and controlled by USB connected to your PC, Lumascopes offer greater versatility, including the capability for long term time-lapse and live video recording. The compact design of all models allows live cell imaging in hypoxia and anaerobic chambers, incubators, hoods, and other challenging locations. Eliminate any chance of exposure to elevated oxygen levels by eliminating removal of your samples from the chamber.  Options include full XYZ automation for microplates and other multi-position samples.  Phase contrast available on all models. 

Partners since 2012

Baker and Baker Ruskinn formed a partnership with Etaluma in 2012 after researchers from King’s College London demonstrated in situ live cell imaging under physoxic conditions using a Lumascope inside the SCI-tive workstation.

Since then, Etaluma has been an exclusive partner for physiologically relevant imaging within the InvivO2 400 and other Baker Ruskinn Workstations. 

The advantages of using a Lumascope inside a Baker Ruskinn workstation:

  1. Small footprint conserves valuable real estate within the workstation.
  2. Monitor on back wall of workstation allows “heads up” viewing of cells under physoxia rather than using oculars protruding from the chamber.
  3. Economical relative to traditional microscope solutions.
  4. Easy set up in a workstation, no modifications required, and need only one or two cords to pass through the sealed cable port to a PC outside the workstation.
  5. Lumascopes are robust! They have high tolerance to high humidity (non-condensing) and incubator temperatures.
  6. Can be sterilized by hydrogen peroxide vapor, ethanol, or hypochlorite.
  7. Functionality ranges from transmitted light (brightfield and phase contrast) up to 3 colour fluorescence and full X,Y Z automation.
